We’re in the process of building a 64bit server to handle the creation of 7000 claim images from one directory load. What’s the total amount of memory we should install that could handle a big job like that? 12gb? 16gb?

I have a 64 bit machine with 8 gig and I am impressed with its performance. I think that should do because we had an issue with 2 gig file sizes, so 8 gig is plenty to hold this spooler in memory, but then again hardware is cheap these days. I would stress the importance of 64 bit machines though. We had a few customers that ran into the 2 Giga byte limit that a 32 bit operating system can handle. In imaging thousands of claims the HIPAA Claim Printer would create a back log of 3000 claims in the spooler and then spooled images would disappear. It turned out to be that the spool file reached 2 gig and overwriting occurred. 64bit machines do not have this limitation.
